D. Allan Butterfield, Ph.D. receives 1998 Individual Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring from President Clinton.

Dr. Butterfield was recognized for his successful mentoring of large numbers of women, minorities, and persons from Appalachia, all of whom are under represented in the discipline of chemistry.
