University Of Kentucky Undergraduate Research Program (UKURP)

The University of Kentucky Undergraduate Research Program (UKURP) creates student /faculty partnerships that support the development of an important pedagogy for teaching and engaging undergraduate students and revitalizing the curriculum. Created in the fall of 2000 with 25 student/faculty partnerships, UKURP continues to grow, offering more first and second year students the opportunity to be part of the exciting research community at UK. Students work alongside many of the distinguished research faculty. UKURP students work voluntarily an average of ten hours per week for the entire academic year, fall and spring semesters, depending on their start date. Program activities include, but are not limited to, research discussion groups, seminars, and access to the Society for the Promotion of Undergraduate Research (SPUR, a student research club) and more. Students participate in important current research and have opportunities to travel across the country to share their work with the research community, like the National Conference of Undergraduate Research (NCUR). Students can expect:

  • 1. Opportunities to work with outstanding UK research faculty early in their college career.
  • 2. Research projects in most academic disciplines
  • 3. Summer Research Opportunities Database available on a priority basis to UKURP students
  • 4. Hone skills for writing and presenting research abstracts
  • 5. UK Annual Student Showcase
  • 6. Access to other Activities and Services

Faculty participants have found that students can become active scholars throughout their undergraduate education, not only in the last stages of their undergraduate careers.
