Primary Research Focus: Tobacco use among adolescents and college students Tobacco and drug prevention Tobacco policies in schools
Key Contributions: Through an NCI-funded research grant, brought attention to tobacco prevention in tobacco-producing areas (demonstrated that it was possible to conduct effective tobacco prevention programs in tobacco-growing areas) Recently worked on a research project on mentoring with a junior faculty member in health promotion. The result of this project has been two publications in refereed journals and two presentations at professional conferences. Been very active in training future teachers to teach health education. Has played a role in producing high-quality teachers in the health area. Played a part in a research team that has focused on smoking initiation among college students. This has been a problem that has been ignored but is increasing in prevalence.
