Parking During the TA Orientation

Parking around the university can be a challenge, especially if you do not already have a parking permit. Plan to arrive early enough to find a parking space and to be at the Student Center Worsham Theater patio in time to register and have breakfast before the orientation sessions begin.

Here is some parking information to help you navigate:

The parking lot behind Memorial Coliseum is a Residential lot (R1) and is “off-patrol” Aug. 17-19, meaning that there will not be officers patrolling the lot for unauthorized cars, so parking is free in that lot on those days. Memorial Coliseum is across the street from the Student Center on Avenue of Champions. To get to the parking lot, from East Maxwell St. turn onto Lexington Ave. and turn left into parking lot with R1 signs, by the basket ball courts. (You can also access Lexington Ave. via Avenue of Champions., which runs in front of Memorial Coliseum and the Student Center). Park anywhere in the R1 part of the lot. You can also enter the parking lot from Rose Street, but the part by Rose Street is E (Employee) parking; drive toward the basket ball courts to find the R1 spots. Do NOT  park in the E parking spaces or you will be ticketed ($25 fine).

Alternate lot:
Another Residential lot that will be off patrol is R4,  across the street from W. T. Young Library, at the 90 degree turn where Woodland Ave. turns into Hilltop. Be sure it says R, not E or Visitors Pay Lot. This parking lot is about a 15 minute walk to the Student Center.

You may also be able to find free street parking in the residential areas around Maxwell Street. Be sure to read the city parking signs, do not park in a No Parking area or on a No Parking day. Do not park at a parking meter; you will not be able to leave frequently to go feed the meter.

Parking structure #5 between Limestone and South Upper St. has visitor parking. The price is $2 for the first hour, plus $2 for the second hour, plus $1 for the third and subsequent hours.
