Presidential Graduate Fellowships
2008-2009
Graduate programs are invited to nominate candidates for the 2008-2009 Presidential Fellowships. Fellowships with a stipend of $15,000, a tuition scholarship, and student insurance will be available. The Presidential Fellowship is a 12-month award, designed for currently-enrolled students.
CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY
- Eligible students include those currently enrolled in graduate programs. Students enrolling for their first term of study in a UK graduate program in the fall semester are not eligible for this fellowship. Students who are currently being supported or have been previously supported by the Dissertation Year Fellowship are not eligible for this fellowship.
- Candidates must have a graduate grade point average of 3.7 or above on any previous graduate work.
- Candidates must have achieved the 81st percentile or higher on one portion of the GRE or GMAT.
NOMINATION PROCESS
Candidates for Presidential Fellowships must be nominated by the program's director of graduate studies. Programs may submit two nominations for Presidential Fellowships.
In the following order, nominations must include:
- A completed fellowship nomination form specific to the Presidential Fellowship;
- A letter of nomination from the director of graduate studies or major professor elaborating on special qualifications of the candidate (previous scholarships, honors and awards, research papers, publications, etc.);
- A letter of recommendation from another faculty member familiar with the student's work;
- A half-page student statement of goals for the coming year (student should discuss the relevance/signifance of his/her reasearch);
- A brief curriculum vita (including publications and presentations);
- Photocopies of transcripts from all graduate schools attended;
- Photocopy of official GRE (or GMAT) scores.
SELECTION PROCESS
Ranking of the top candidates and alternates for these fellowships will be determined on the basis of the criteria set forth above. Faculty representatives of the standing fellowship panels will advise the dean on recommended recipients and alternates.
DUE DATE FOR NOMINATIONS
Nominations with all appropriate documentation (six complete sets) must reach the Graduate School Funding Office, 203 Gillis Building, no later than Monday, February 25, 2008.
NOTE:
Recipients may be considered eligible for a program award not to exceed the equivalent of one-half of a TA or RAship (i.e. equivalent to 10 hours of duties per week).
