Transgenic Mouse Facility

Photo of white mouseThe transgenic mouse provides an excellent model system in which to study the complexities of mammalian development and cell differentiation, as well as genetically linked human diseases. The Transgenic Facility was established in 1989 to provide the University of Kentucky research community with a centralized facility for the generation of transgenic mice.

The facility provides state-of-the-art equipment and expertise essential for producing transgenics and maintains a mouse colony in the UK Division of Laboratory Animal Research facility that is dedicated to transgenic production. The microinjection of purified DNA and all surgical procedures are conducted by a full-time research analyst.
