With Joseph Straley (physics and astronomy), four members of the first graduating class of UK's Young Women in Science Program examine a device that uses mirrors to make a plastic fly at the bottom look like it is floating. The program, at the Center on Drug and Alcohol Research, encourages young women from Appalachia to pursue scientific careers in drug abuse research. Program participants, selected from 13 southeastern Kentucky counties, receive training, education and mentoring over a three-year period.
