Gregory Jicha: “Unless people are educated to realized that memory and thinking problems are not part of the normal aging process that they do represent a disease of the brain and that there are treatments that can help, we will not bring people in. I see this just about every week in my clinic. Somebody will come in for a first evaluation often almost mute and incontinent in the end stages of disease and I say to the family, ‘Why? Why did you wait so long?’ They give me two answers. Number one: ‘We didn’t realize that there was a problem.’ I say, ‘C’mon.’

Jeff Worley: “How’s that possible?”

Gregory Jicha: “How is that possible? And then they say, ‘Eventually, we realized that it was a problem, but we didn’t think there was anything you could do.’”
