UK Office of Research Integrity-IACUC

Web-Based Training

As stated in the Animal Welfare Act, all individuals involved in animal care, treatment, and use must be qualified to perform their duties.

This training became mandatory January 1, 2002, as directed by our Institutional Official, the Vice President for Research, and must be completed by the Principal Investigator and all study personnel listed on an IACUC protocol.

Approval of any new protocol, and approval of Continuation Reviews, will be contingent upon completion of the IACUC 101 course in the AALAS Learning Library by the PI and all personnel listed on the respective protocol. If one has previously completed the basic LATA modules, one does not have to complete the IACUC 101 course. As a way of documenting training, additional courses may be required by the IACUC and the Attending Veterinarian or designate on a protocol by protocol basis based on the species used, the non-surgical procedures or surgeries to be performed as well as the study personnel prior training and experience. Again, previous completion of pertinent LATA modules will substitute for this training.

As an existing member or a potential member of the University's Animal Care Program, you are entitled to take as many of these courses as you wish at no charge to you. The IACUC encourages you to take advantage of this valuable resource. Utilization of the AALAS Learning Library will only make our Animal Care Program stronger.
