About UK Faculty Research Support Programs

Funds to support the programs in this guide flow from the University of Kentucky Research Foundation Inc. (UKRF), a not-for-profit Kentucky corporation established in 1945. UKRF serves as the university's agent in the receipt of all external grants & contracts, intellectual property income and other designated income; oversees the protection, development and commercialization of intellectual properties; and manages special cooperative agreements.

Eighty percent of the recovered indirect costs generated from external grants & contracts is used to support these programs for faculty research and graduate education.

The programs listed in the 2007-2008 UK Faculty Research Support Guide are available to full-time faculty members — regular, special, research or clinical title series.

In general, internal research support is intended to facilitate the development of a competitive research program funded by external sources. All requests for internal support require the approvals of the college dean and department chair or center & institute director, and must demonstrate how the internal support will lead to externally funded grants and contracts.

An intermediate peer review process will be used to review proposals for some programs.

Requests and proposals are to be submitted via email. Indicate program name in subject line.  Unless otherwise indicated, there is no formal application process.
