Agile Analytics at an Academic Medical Center

The academic medical center provides a bountiful volume, velocity, and variety of data. This vast collection of data can be complex to manage and analyze due to being spread across dozens of information systems. These systems may have varying degrees of sophistication, there may be incomplete standards, validation rules may not be implemented, and the inherent complexity of health care data make finding value difficult.

In the move toward becoming a Learning Health System, we established the Data, Analytics, and Statistical Core (DASC) in the hope of building an agile analytics group that can enable the faculty and staff at UK HealthCare (UKHC) to better implement operational quality improvement and research projects. By creating streamlined yet robust processes and by collaborating with clinical care providers, administrators, researchers, and heath care process engineers we have been able successfully build and accelerate high value analytics. I will share some of our stories and the strategies that we have found successful in implementing this agile analytics team.
