CCTS Clinical Research Update

Speaker:

Paul A. Harris, Ph.D.,
Director, Office of Research Informatics,
Professor, Dept. of Biomedical Informatics & Dept. of Biomedical Engineering,
Vanderbilt University

Abstract:

This talk will provide a brief description of several informatics platforms (e.g. REDCap, ResearchMatch, TrialsToday) and service lines developed to support clinical and translational research at Vanderbilt and across the CTSA network. In each case study, a general set of "guiding principles and lesson learned" for innovation, implementation and dissemination will be highlighted. New platform work in EHR integration/interoperability (e.g. REDCap on FHIR) and patient-centered data collection (e.g. MyCap) will be presented for collaborative discussion along with new and evolving service lines in the NCATS/TIN Recruitment Innovation Center designed to support participant recruitment, retention and return of value.

Upon completion, attendees will be able to:

  1. Define and discuss the broad landscape of Clinical Research Informatics
  2. Review guiding principles and lessons learned from organizing the Vanderbilt Office of Research Informatics and supporting innovation through implementation in large-scale CRI informatics platform projects.
