COVID-19 has brought to light many things throughout the past year — the importance of health and safety, taking care of yourself and loved ones and trusting in science and technology. It’s also highlighted the prevalence of anti-Asian racism.

The Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center's annual Obesity and Diabetes Research Day went virtual for the first time and expanded from a research ‘day’ to a research ‘series.’ Organizers say they were pleasantly surprised by the attendance with as many as 120 participants in one session alone.

“This institution has an impressive history of women leaders who have shaped our identity as Kentucky’s university,” said UK President Eli Capilouto. “As we celebrate Women’s History Month in March, I am humbled by the stories of these women and equally proud of those who serve at UK today.” 

"We are announcing today that UK’s Confucius Institute (UKCI) will be closing, effective immediately. In short, we are exercising provisions that allow us to pull out of our contract as part of a necessary transition of China-related programming and initiatives to other parts of the institution," said President Eli Capilouto.

This Ph.D. strand will focus on the latest strategies for working within complex institutions, applying innovative approaches to ensure everyone has an opportunity to succeed,” said Kelly Bradley, professor and chair, Department of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation.

“One day, organic thermoelectrics may be used to power smart watches and other wearable electronics, eliminating the ever pressing need to charge the battery,” said Kenneth Graham, assistant professor of chemistry and lead investigator of the study.

Brent Seales, professor and chair of the Department of Computer Science, is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant to create EduceLab — a cultural heritage imaging and analysis laboratory.

The College of Arts and Sciences Passport to the World initiative will explore the topic of xenophobia with a lecture by historian and award-winning author Erika Lee. The free public talk, “Immigrants Out: The History of American Xenophobia,” will be presented 4 p.m. Thursday, March 4, via Zoom. 

Hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBO) is a treatment that is now being experimentally studied in adult patients with severe traumatic brain injuries (TBI). Hyperbaric oxygen treatment is a specialized way, using a pressure chamber, to dramatically increase the amount of oxygen delivered to body tissues.
