Dr. Kevin M. Yeager is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Kentucky (UK) and Director of the Sedimentary and Environmental Radiochemistry Research Laboratory (SER2L). He holds a B.S. (Geoscience) from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, an M.Sc. (Geology) from the University of Toledo, and a Ph.D. (Geology) from Texas A&M University. Prior to joining UK, he was faculty in the School of Ocean Science and Engineering at the University of Southern Mississippi. His group conducts field- and laboratory-based research focused on sedimentary systems in aquatic settings (floodplains, lakes, estuaries, and coastal deltas-marshes-oceans) to answer questions related to environmental quality, surface processes, and paleoclimate over timescales from Holocene to contemporary. Areas of expertise include radiochemistry, geochronology, sedimentary records of environmental change and human impacts, and environmental contamination. Current research interests include the longstanding pollution of the English-Wabigoon River (Ontario, Canada) with mercury and impacts on First Nations communities, the roles of sedimentary processes in fisheries sustainability in Lake Tanganyika (East Africa), understanding how experimental oyster reefs on the continental shelf (Gulf Coast) impact sedimentary substrates and endangered fish habitats, and deciphering sedimentary signatures of seismic events and paleoclimatic/ environmental change in Jackson Lake (WY).
