Jean B. Faye

Dr. Faye is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Science and Geography at Centre College. Dr. Faye received his PhD in Environmental Sciences, Studies, and Policy with a focus in Geography from the University of Oregon. He is an interdisciplinary scholar whose research focuses on West Africa, and the wider Sahel region. He examines indigenous land use and farming practices that improve climate change resilience and food security among the poorest people on the planet. These integrated farming practices include agroforestry (trees on farms and soil/tree carbon sequestration), soil fertility and nutrient management, ecological management of plant diseases and biodiversity conservation in agricultural landscapes. Dr. Faye also collaborates with the Kentucky School for the Deaf (KSD) to explore ways to achieve year-round food self-sufficiency, reduce reliance on chemical inputs and develop agroecosystems to increase sustainable crop production in the state. Dr. Faye teaches Agroforestry, Agroecology, Physical Geography, Soil Science, Environmental Health, and Environmental Science.
