Updates and Changes to NIH/AHRQ applications and review criteria (scientific premise/human subjects) for January 25, 2019 and beyond.

For applications due on January 25, 2019 and beyond, the term “rigor of the prior research” will replace “scientific premise” under the Significance section for most research grant and career development award applications. (See NOT-OD-18-228 and NOT-OD-18-229 for new language and additional clarifications.)  In addition, applicants must describe plans to address weaknesses in the rigor of the prior research in the Approach section.

These updates also include new policy requirements for the Inclusion of Individuals Across the Lifespan for proposals with human subjects. See NOT-OD-18-116 where language about the “Inclusion of Children” is being replaced by “Inclusion Across the Lifespan.”
