The University Press of Kentucky will feature its “Place Matters: New Directions in Appalachian Studies” series of books at the upcoming Appalachian Studies Association Conference hosted on the UK campus March 12-15.

Candice Nicole Hargons is not interested in glossing over the intricacies of racism. She is using science to take a deep dive into conversations about whether racism exists, who is most impacted by it and what it means to be racist.

Thanks to volunteers, SBCoA has played a role in many landmark discoveries, including debunking the theories that aluminum or mercury cause Alzheimer's, identifying so-called "AD mimics", and proving that there are changes in the brain decades before there are outward symptoms of AD.

Aria Byrd, a doctoral candidate in the UK College of Medicine, has been selected to participate in a rigorous six-month program aiming to create the next generation of science advocates.
