The University of Kentucky College of Medicine will host the 2019 Obstetrical Neurology Conference on Friday, Sept. 6, 2019 for faculty, providers and trainees in neurology, obstetrics, anesthesia and women's health interested in neurological issues in the pregnant patient.

Distinguished speakers from multiple disciplines will discuss a range of topics, including neuro-oncology, demyelinating disease, obstetrical anesthesia, and cerebrovascular neurology:

• Dr. Cheryl Bushnell, Wake Forest Baptist Health
• Dr. Na Tosha Gatson, Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine
• Dr. Maria Houchens, Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women's Hospital
• Dr. Jonathan Waters, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center

Several practitioners from the University of Kentucky will also take the stage:

• Dr. Amy Hessler, Director of Women's Neurology, UK HealthCare
• Dr. John O'Brien, Chief, Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine
• Dr. Robert Gaiser, Chairman, Department of Anesthesiology
• Dr. Daniel Lee, Director, Rural Physician Leadership Program

As recently as the 1980's, women with neurological issues were urged to forgo pregnancy, said Hessler, one of the conference's program directors. 

"It's my passion to help my patients achieve their goal to raise a family in spite of their challenges, and this conference will show other providers how they, too, can help their patients."
