Himanshu Thapliyal, associate professor and Endowed Robley D. Evans Faculty Fellow in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been ranked in the top 50 among scientists throughout the world in the field of Computer Hardware & Architecture.

In August, Stanford University released a publicly available database of 100,000 top-scientists that provides standardized information on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions and a composite indicator. Thapliyal ranked as 44 (including self-citation) and 49 (without self-citation) for the 2019 calendar year.

According to the Stanford University paper, “the single year provides a measure of performance in that single recent year. Therefore, it removes the bias that may exist in comparing scientists with long accrual of citations over many years of active work versus younger ones with shorter time frame during which they may accumulate citations because it focuses on citation accrual only during a single year.”

Thapliyal won a National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2019 and was credited as one of the key players in "quantum circuits for cryptanalysis” by the German Federal Office for Information Security in 2018.  In 2020, Thapliyal has received a second-place award in the IEEE 6th World Forum on Internet of Things Best Paper Competition.

“I am thankful to the department and the college for the wonderful support that helped to achieve global recognition in the research field on "Computer Hardware & Architecture,” said Thapliyal.
