One Day for UK

The University of Kentucky is a place defined by its people. This Wednesday, April 17, our community will band together during our first “One Day for UK,” a 24-hour day of giving.

“One Day for UK” is part of “Kentucky Can: The 21st Century Campaign,” a $2.1 billion comprehensive campaign that harnesses our collective determination and boundless compassion to write the next chapter for this University. As part of the campaign, UK Research is raising money for the Healthy Kentucky Research Building Fund.

The Healthy Kentucky Research Building (formerly called RB2) is a new 300,000-square-foot research facility in the heart of UK’s biomedical research campus. The $265 million facility—paid for by a combination of state funds and private philanthropy—brings together basic scientists, clinicians, engineers and behavioral scientists to address the state’s most pronounced health disparities. Kentucky is among the nation’s leaders in deaths from cancer, diabetes and obesity, cardiovascular diseases including stroke, and opioid overdoses.

Ultimately, 500 scientists (principal investigators, postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students), in these health disparity areas will work in this unique facility.

You can help UK Research complete collaborative spaces, like the 100-seat auditorium on the first floor, and outfit wet labs to bring scientists and clinicians together to develop solutions that are rapidly translated to communities where they can make a difference.
